Sir James Mancham, the first President of the Seychelles, writes to Nation, the island’s main daily newspaper, to give his reaction to the meeting between Andry Rajoelina and Marc Ravalomanana of Madagascar. Sir James Mancham took the opportunity to publicly congratulate President James Michel of Seychelles for the initiative to bring national reconciliation in Madagascar. Dear Sir: In my capacity as the founding President of the Republic of Seychelles, as an elected member of COMESA's [Common Market for Eastern & Southern Africa] Committee of Elders, and as the recipient of the Gusi Peace Prize Award 2011 for Statesmanship, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to President James A. L’invité d’honneur aux célébrations officielles de la fête nationale, le président des Seychelles James Michel, a réitéré son soutien à la Commission de l’Océan Indien (COI), lors d’un discours au siège de celle-ci à Quatre-Bornes hier. Après avoir procédé à la signature d’un accord portant sur la gestion conjointe de Maurice et des Seychelles d’une zone supplémentaire du plateau continental des Mascareignes, le président seychellois s’est rendu au siège de la COI à Quatre-Bornes, où il s’est adressé aux représentants des pays membres de la COI, à ses partenaires et aux secrétaires généraux des projets. « Je vous réitère mon attachement à la vision de la COI et au renforcement des liens entre les pays de la région », a-t-il déclaré. James Michel a souhaité que les liens d’amitié entre les pays membres de la COI se renforcent davantage afin de créer un espace de développement plus solide. La cérémonie de remise d’insigne de la République, Grand Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK), au Chief Guest pour le 12 mars, le président des Seychelles James Alix Michel, s’est déroulée avec au moins une heure de retard sur le programme établi. En principe, cette manifestation protocolaire à la State House était prévue pour midi, soit avant le déjeuner officiel de l’indépendance offert par le président de la République sir Anerood Jugnauth. Mais, elle ne s’est déroulée qu’après le déjeuner, soit en début d’après-midi. D’autre part, rares ont été les ministres qui se sont rendus à la State House pour ce déjeuner officiel de la présidence. Ainsi, parmi les convives de sir Anerood Jugnauth, l’on pouvait apercevoir le Premier ministre Navin Ramgoolam, le Deputy Prime Minister et ministre des Services publics Rashid Beebeejaun, le vice-Premier ministre et ministre des Finances Xavier-Luc Duval, et les ministres Arvin Boolell (Affaires étrangères) et Nicolas Von Mally (Pêche), soit le minimum du côté du gouvernement pour ne pas causer d’affront au président des Seychelles.
