President Michel meets with Ugandan Special Envoy

President James Michel met with the Honourable Frederick Ruhindi, Member of Parliament and former Attorney General of Uganda, at State House this morning. Hon. Ruhindi is the presidential special envoy for the Ugandan campaign for the chair of the African Union Commission for the period 2016-2020.

Uganda’s candidate is Dr. Specioza Naigaga Wandira Kazibwe, who was the first woman in Africa to hold the position of vice-president, and has also been a UN special representative on HIV/AIDS.

They spoke about Uganda’s bid and the work of the African Union. They also spoke about the need to reform the UN Security Council, efforts to increase jobs for youth in Africa, tourism potential and the upcoming African Union Summit, where Seychelles will be represented at a high-level delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Transport.

Also present during the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan, the Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Ms. Srdjana Janosevic, and a representative of the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Betty Mutesa.
